Newbie alert!!
Sep. 2nd, 2004 02:46 pmhi folks, minto grubb signing into this community.
I am male, white, working class, and British (That is usually enough to put people off, but if you want more, check my biog).
I want some info, please. Back in the 80s, there was A peacecamp set up at Greenham Common Airbase.
The idea was that the Americans had parked Cruise missiles on British soil, not 40 miles from london. the idea was that they would disperse in times internationl tension and act as a deterrence to Russian attack.
Ok, lots of folks were unhappy about this. CND, Greenpeace, loads of minor groups turned up. now the women who had got there frirst said that they didn't want men involved, it was a women only thing. Even so, a lot of women from CND went in and joined. Although not at the camp, I met pagans and other who in on it. I got a lot of feedback from them, but I have to say that it was al very negative. many women just didn't buy into the hardline feminist idealogy being preached at the camp, and left it.
So, how has feminist theory changed or grown since 1985 or so?
What are the dominant strands of feminist theory, and who are the leading proponents?
I see a few women posting here who take the view that they are 'Pro women, not anti men' and i want to say how much I value and appreciate that.
Thanks for listening.
