Hi, I'm new here.
Just some interesting food for thought:
Oxygen and Lifetime seem fine w/having references to lesbians/lesbian content in their programming, and also cater to a somewhat wide variety of women.(of course, still within certain racial, class etc boundaries)

However, Spike Tv would never show a program about gay men, or show programming that isn't specifically geared towards a certain type of man, the somewhat affluent beer guzzlin stuff and maxim readin bikini loving MAN.

So, why is stuff that is aimed specifically at guys seem so heterosexist and dated in terms of gender definition? Is it because some straight men(or marketers) feel there needs to be a special place and area for such a specific type of men? Or does that make the rest of us not "men"? Whereas stuff that is aimed towards women is also rather gender coded and sometimes boundary reinforcing, but doesn't seem as intent at forcing boundaries and barriers and strict definitions. Just a thought about how men and women are seen differently thru the eyes of the media and the marketers.
